Mr. Wilson’s Cabinet of Wonders ~ Lawrence Weshler

301 Moved Permanently

Date Completed: 12/13/15

Rating: 4/10

Although this book seems to be relatively prestigious, I’m not sure I experienced whatever it was that led to all the hype about this book. The museum of Jurassic Technology was interesting, but not thought provoking. The story around the book was hardly intriguing, but rather very dry. The objects described remind me of abjection, or uncanniness. It’s very close to real, but something’s a little off about every single item described. The only part I found intriguing was when the author was discussing Mr. Wilson, who is the person of main interest in this book and a very serious character.

Weschler is a notable author and has written many books. He write “political tragedies and cultural comedies” according to his website. He seems to pursue cultural enlightenment through discussion of the strange.
